It was proposed that autoimmune TLE is a specific GAD65-antibody associated syndrome, in which immunosuppressants could be beneficial. However, some of the patients with autoimmune TLE and GAD65-Abs may develop severe memory impairment years after the onset of epilepsy, suggesting an overlap with limbic encephalitis. Overall, the prognoses of both GAD65-antibody-associated syndromes, limbic encephalitis and autoimmune TLE are not well known.

Considering these issues, they studied clinical presentations at onset and long-term outcomes in a cohort of GAD65-abs patients with TLE.
