Nicolas Lundahl Ciano Petersen, MD

I’m a clinical neurologist and researcher in the group “Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation” of the Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga (Spain). Between February 2021 and March 2022, I had the opportunity to work in the French Reference Center of Paraneoplastic Neurological Syndromes (PNS) and Autoimmune Encephalitis (AE) as part of my cotutelle PhD thesis, that allowed me to work with an incredible multidisciplinary team combing clinical, laboratory and translational research, as well as to participate in international collaborative projects. During this period, I focused my work in the identification of clinical and molecular biomarkers in anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis, aiming to better understand the pathogenesis of the disease, predict outcomes, and identify potential novel immunotherapies. In addition, I worked in the clinical and immunological characterization of PNS associated to specific tumors or neuroglial antibodies, as well as in the interpretation of tissue-based immunofluorescence and cell-based assays used for the detection of these antibodies.

I feel honored and grateful to all the members of the French Reference Center of PNS and AE for making me feel home since the first day, as well as for their guidance, support, and kindness during all my stay
