Giulia Sofia Cereda, MD
I am a neurologist in the Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy Unit of the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta in Milan, Italy.
Having a strong interest in autoimmune encephalitis, autoimmune epilepsy and paraneoplastic neurological syndromes, in March 2024 I started an internship at the French Reference Center on Paraneoplastic Neurological Syndromes and Autoimmune Encephalitis in Lyon, a center of excellence for the diagnosis and management of such disorders.
My research initially focused on the role of cancer immunotherapy in triggering paraneoplastic neurological syndromes. Thanks to a research fellowship awarded by the European Academy of Neurology, I had the privilege to continue my work at the center, advancing my project titled “Novel insights into anti-CV2/CRMP5 paraneoplastic neurological syndrome” under the guidance of Prof. Honnorat.
During my time in Lyon, I had the opportunity to attend the outpatient clinic with Prof. Honnorat, to collaborate with his expert team in both clinical and research activities and take part in national multidisciplinary discussions. I was impressed by the high volume of referred cases, which offered a unique formative environment.
I am grateful for this experience that has enriched my clinical and research skills, allowing me to bring valuable expertise back to Italy.
